A safelist is a group of people that have
mutually agree to receive email from each other. The safelist
members join a membership site like
Evergreen
Safelists and are given the ability to send email to the list
members via our server at set intervals. Members also agree to
receive email from our server sent by other members of the list.
Most list owners also have in their terms of service that members
agree to receive email from admin.
When you join a
safelist you should expect to get a large number of emails from the
other safelists members. You
will need to have two email addresses to join, one for list mail
(ad's from other members) and one for contact email (notices and
solo ad's from admin).
Safelist
membership allows you to email your ad's to a large number of people
spam free.
Since you will be
getting a lot of mail and the email will most certainly contain
advertising material, it is vitally important to have very reliable
pop3 email service designed for business use, such as
YuhKnow Email service. A
google search will net several options, but do your due diligence,
unfortunately not all providers live up to their name.
If you have your
own domain, check with your host to be certain of your terms of
service. (do they allow safelist email?) Find out what kind of "spam
filters" they are running (the fewer the better) and if there is a
limit on the number of emails you can receive in an hour. All
of these things will be determining factors in deciding if your
domain email is a good choice for safelist email.
I have found that
if you are forced to use a free email account, that Gmail is
really the best choice. But I would not advise joining a large
number of lists or a safelist submitter using a free
account. One of the main reasons for that is you cannot put an
auto-validator on an email account that is not a true pop3 account,
nor can you use an email box cleaner: both of which are great tools
to help manage a large number of safelist memberships. It is sad to see people put in the effort to join and
validate lists only to loose their memberships or get their email
address banned because of bounce emails, spam filters or receipt
limits (which do cause bounces)
The
first step in joining safelists should be determining which email
addresses you are going to use and getting them set up to handle the
large volume of mail.
